Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate for fresh faces this summer after he was unable to secure Champions League football for next season.
The Norwegian masterminded a stunning turnaround after replacing Jose Mourinho in May but United have faltered in recent weeks and a draw with Huddersfield on Sunday saw them miss out on the top four.
United have been linked with a number of top players this summer but they’ll find it difficult to compete without the lure of Champions League football.
“There have been some reports In Italy that Manchester United have declared an interest in Dybala,” he told the Transfer Window podcast.
“However, our sources are telling us and the information we have is that in fact United have agreed in principle to pay the €100m (£86m) buyout clause that it would take to get Dybala out of Juventus.”
And United fans were quick to express their excitement about the potential deal.
The transfer revelation comes amid news that:
“Dybala welcome to @ManUtd,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Announce Dybala,” a second said.
“Paulo Dybala is gonna be a huge improvement for us.. surely new no 10 for us…,” a third added.
But some fans were less convinced about the signing.
“Not a bad signing at all but he isn’t what we need first,” one supporter commented.
“Unfortunately the way Ed is he will priorities Dybala over a solid CB and will go for bargain hunt on a full back.
“Dybala is the type of player you buy when you have a team then add.”
While another added: “How about Rugani instead of Dybala? Much more sensible signing.”
