The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘C’ Owerri, Imo State, has intercepted one trailer loaded with analgin injection and other items, Punch Metro reports.
Briefing journalists on Friday, the Customs Area Controller, Kayode Olusemire, said the trailer, with the number plate LSD 347 XD carried 1,182 cartons of analgin injection.
Olusemire said analgin, which is a pain killer injection, had been banned in Nigeria.
The comptroller cartons of underwear and other consignment were used to conceal the deadly injections.
He disclosed that the trailer was intercepted and arrested at Akpado along Port Harcourt-Owerri Expressway.
Olusemire, who said each packet of the analgin contained 100 bottles of the injection, wondered how much the smuggler invested in smuggling such number of the product into the country.
He said, “The side effects of the analgin to human body are enormous. There are people when you inject the drug to them, they start to vomit uncontrollably. It paralyses some people when they take the injection. Owing to all these and more, Nigeria banned the use of the drug and sister drugs like Novalgin in 2005 from coming into the country.”
